It is not the big things that change our lives, but small habits that can change our lives in unprecedented ways. Applying small habits like waking up early in the morning, exercising daily, meditating, and keeping a journal can greatly impact our lives. People often wonder how to change their lives instantly, but a sudden change might change your life in a negative way. You have to change your life in a slow and steady manner.

How can you change your life? The following article will share 10 small habits that have a huge impact on your life. Each habit has been taken from a book, so the article will also give an overview of these books. The blog was written after much research and reading these books. Do read the article till the end if you want to change yourself for the rest of your life.

1- Wake up early in the morning

Imagine waking early in the morning, sitting outside your home, taking in the fresh air, and listening to birds chirping; that is a perfect combination for a healthy life. According to Charles Duhigg’s book “The Power of Habit,” waking up early in the morning can make the rest of your day proactive and productive. Additionally, a quiet environment and fresh air can boost your mood and your brain’s neurons, which can set the pace for the rest of your day. The author, after extensive research, finds out that a person who wakes up early in the morning will have better moods and be more productive throughout the day.

2- Set your goals

You might have read Stephen Covey’s famous book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” In this book, he emphasises setting goals if a person wants long-term success. When a person sets goals, they have clarity in their lives and can do whatever they want to do. How do I set goals? For this, you need to make a plan (whether short-term or long-term) and try to achieve what you have planned. Setting goals will help you be more motivated and focused in your life. So make goals, both short- and long-term, and stick to them if you want success in your life.

3- Do regular exercise

The “Atomic Habits” of James Clear suggest that 30 minutes of regular exercise can change your life in an unexpected way. It is because 30 minutes (at least) of exercise will boost your energy and mood and help you reduce stress and anxiety, leading to a healthier and happier life. A small habit of 30 minutes of exercise a day can change your mental and physical lives, so start today and live a happier life ahead.

4- Write a gratitude journal

Are you surrounded by too much negativity? If yes, then you should change your life perspective from being too negative to being positive. How do you turn negativity into optimism? The answer lies in Robin Sharma’s “The 5 Am Club,” in which he suggests that you keep a journal with you and write about everything for which you are grateful each day. This will help you to reflect on the positive side of life and will improve your physical and psychological health. This small habit can make your sleep better and reduce your stress and anxiety.

5- Start your day with meditation

If you ask any guru or teacher about one thing that can change your life, they will suggest meditation. It is because it not only improves your mood but also improves your focus. According to Dan Harris’s “10% Happier,” meditation increases your focus and reduces stress and anxiety. This will train your mind to be more present and less reactive to stressors. Meditation on a regular basis can reduce depression and anxiety, improve cognitive functions, and improve overall well-being. Additionally, meditation can reduce negative emotions and increase positive ones. So start your day with meditation and have a great day ahead.

6- Read on a daily basis

This is my favorite habit. Wendy Lesser writes in his famous book “The Reading Habit” that 20 minutes of daily reading can change your life. It is because reading broadens your world’s perspective, increases your knowledge horizon, and gives you an escape from a boring life. Additionally, reading can expose you to new ideas, cultures, and perspectives that will help you lead a peaceful and mindful life. Similarly, it is a source of entertainment that promotes relaxation. Reading helps people from all walks of life, but students can take more benefit from it because it expands knowledge and vocabulary and improves focus and concentration.

7- Learn new skills

“The First 20 Hours” book finds out that a person can learn a new skill by giving that practise 20 hours. If these 20 hours should be given with more dedication and concentration, A new skill will help you to have more confidence, and you will have a sense of accomplishment. Additionally, when you are busy learning a new skill, your life will be free of boredom and stress. If you want to challenge yourself, this is the best way to do it. So if you are free and have 20 hours spare, learn a new skill, no matter what that skill is.

8- Practice mindfulness

Mark Williams and Danny Penman wrote a book by the name of “Mindfulness: An Eight-Week Plan for Finding Peace in a Frantic World.” In this book, they incorporate how to practise mindfulness. Mindfulness is one of the best ways to improve your attention and well-being. By paying attention to the present movement and ignoring the past and future, a person can improve focus and concentration and reduce stress and anxiety. Additionally, it can help you know more about what is happening in your surroundings and within you.

9- Try to be social

We are social beings, and our happiness and stress depend on our relationships with others. Travis Bradberry and Jean Greaves write in their book “The Power of Social Intelligence” that if you want to have a happier, supportive, and positive life, you need to connect with people who can bring these things into your life. Additionally, you should build strong relationships with people because it will benefit your mental and physical health and increase your chances of achieving your goals. So make it a habit of building strong relationships with more influential people.

10- Make your bed

This habit might surprise you, but it has changed the lives of so many people around the world. Admiral William H. McRaven wrote a full book on this habit, “Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life…And Maybe the World.” He writes that when you make your bed in the morning, it can set a positive tone for the rest of your day. Additionally, when you set your bed, the day will start with a sense of accomplishment and will help you to have more order and discipline throughout the day. It also helps you establish a routine, which can make it easier to stick to other good habits throughout the day.
