How to get ready for the fair:

In person Fair:

Start your employer search using the Job fair app. On the previous day of the fair, a map of the event will be made available on the app. Employers can be found using a variety of criteria, including the positions they are hiring for (full- or part-time, fellowship, or internship), the degree fields they are hiring for (arts, business, communications, etc.), and diversity initiatives they are supporting. Additionally, the app allows you to take notes and store your favorite employers.

2. Make or amend your resume:

  • Follow authentic templates and instructions to create or edit your resume.
  • Make an appointment with a career advisor to discuss your resume.
  • Attend a resume station in person or online.

When you go to attend event must take 10-15 copies of your resume and a pen with yourself.  If you gonna attend the fair virtually you must upload your resume to your profile and them make it public. Also write about your capabilities so employers who sign you up for sessions can view your profile.

3. Practice Your Elevator Pitch:

You should have an easily understood elevator speech ready to share with companies when you meet them in person or online at the fair. This pitch should highlight your unique qualifications and demonstrate your enthusiasm for the company.

4. Prepare to be heard and seen:

For online and in person fair you must dress up professionally.  In person fair prior to the fair, clean and press your attire after deciding what to wear. And in virtual fair consider where you’ll be at the fair and choose your background. Handshake does not let you select a backdrop image like Zoom does. To reduce interruptions, try to visit the fair in a peaceful area if at all feasible.
