2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Review

(0)

The latest 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is undeniably superior to its predecessor in terms of a luxury feel, ride comfort, and the efficiency of its torquey 3.0-liter diesel V6 – albeit it is beginning to trail behind rivals in this area. The handling is solid and secure, and the ride is hard yet comfortable, especially with the smaller 18-inch tires.

The Grand Cherokee’s formerly extensive lineup has been streamlined to three trim levels: Overland, Summit, and Trackhawk. Even entry-level models come with 20-inch alloy wheels, auto-dimming mirrors, all-around parking sensors with a rear-view camera, heated and ventilated front seats, and a slew of active safety features. With pricing starting at just over $60,000, the Grand Cherokee represents good value in its class, at least in terms of equipment.

As soon as the optional extras for its primarily European rivals start stacking up, it starts to look like a really excellent value on the showroom floor due to how fully equipped it is. Owners of the Grand Cherokee are quite pleased with its comfort, performance, and technology, but they do not seem more satisfied with its build quality.

What’s New for 2023?

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee upgraded specifications should not be missed.
Latest 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee marks the return of the brand’s midsize three-row SUV to its lineup. It’s steady, comfortable, and easy-going while being more expensive than most of the competition. The well-liked Grand Cherokee Trailhawk model is now only available on the Grand Cherokee 4xe and has been withdrawn from the ICE model.

Only the 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain is available with the Trailhawk trim. The Limited and Overland variants now come standard with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The system has a one-touch customized home screen, five user profiles, and standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Grand Cherokee 2023 includes USB Type-A and new Type-C connections in both rows to improve connectivity. Devices can charge up to four times faster with Type-C connections.

The current Uconnect 5 infotainment system provides new capabilities and higher degrees of personalization, but the initial learning curve is steeper and the system generally is less intuitive than it used to be. Standard features include FCW, AEB with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, BSW, RCTW, reverse automatic emergency braking, LDW, LKA, and ACC. Additionally, models of the Overland and Summit can come with a 19-speaker McIntosh audio system. There is also the 2022 release of a model from the fifth generation of the Grand Cherokee.

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Specifications

Performance and Drive

The two ordinary variants come with air suspension as standard, and while it’s comfortable at highway speeds, the large 4×4 ride is best described as bumpy. However, the difficult surfaces can still make you groan. If you corner eagerly, you’ll notice a body lean, though the little slack steering won’t compel you to do so.

The Grand Cherokee thrives off-road because of its commanding driving position, high ground clearance, and air suspension, which enable it to navigate even the most difficult road. All variants are fitted with a Selec-Terrain control system, which is comparable to the Terrain Response system on the Range Rover. It enables you to select between sand, mud, auto, rock, and snow modes depending on the surface you’re driving over.

Although the steering lacks input, it is relatively light for a car its size and has a small turning radius. Luckily, there are many driving assistance systems available to assist in moving this 2,300 kg 4×4. A reverse camera and front and rear parking sensors are included. Adaptive cruise control makes it easy to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle.

Interior and Technology

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee has lavish interior.
2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior

The base Grand Cherokee comes with an interior that is minimalist yet attractively designed, with a lot of glossy white accents and a smooth surface. Starting with the base model and going up (with the option of a package, of course), heated seats and a steering wheel are standard. Higher trim levels add enough plush leather and other goodies to make the Grand Cherokee a convincingly lavish car.

The Summit Reserve’s Tupelo interior is almost debased. The Grand Cherokee can range from typically modern to a geek’s heaven, depending on how you want to outfit it.

The base Grand Cherokee comes with an 8.4-inch Connect infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play, a six-speaker audio system, and the choice of the top-of-the-line Alpine or McIntosh sound system. This system can be upgraded to a 10.1-inch touchscreen with navigation. In terms of connectivity, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are both options. There are HDMI inputs and USB A and Type-C ports for portable electronics.

Front-row passengers have the option of entertainment and comfort thanks to a 10.25-inch screen on the passenger side, which avoids tricking the driver to become distracted by a screen. The Grand Cherokee model has more USB ports than most owners will ever utilize all at once when the Summit Reserve and rear-seat entertainment packages are installed.

Engines

Three different engines are available for the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee: a 3.7-liter V-6, a 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, and a plug-in hybrid. The specifications for each engine’s horsepower (hp) and torque (lb-ft) are 3.6-liter V-6: 293 hp/260 lb-ft, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8: 357 hp/390 lb-ft, and plug-in hybrid: 375 hp/470 lb-ft.

All other Grand Cherokee models come standard with all-wheel drive, while those with the base 3.6-liter V-6 engine can choose between a rear-wheel drive or an all-wheel drive system. The Grand Cherokee is also capable of towing up to 7,200 pounds.

Safety And Security

The WL Grand Cherokee gets a five-star rating from Euro NCAP based on testing of the 4xe plug-in hybrid, although it does not yet have an ANCAP rating. It got an adult occupant protection rating of 84%, a child occupant protection rating of 89%, a vulnerable road user protection rating of 81%, and a safety support rating of 81% in this testing. When an ANCAP rating will be decided is unknown.

Typical safety gears may include lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, autonomous emergency braking (forward and reverse), front and rear parking sensors, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed limiter, and reversing camera.

Design

The main design of the new Grand Cherokee, including the 4xe, has been carried over to the 2023 model. There aren’t any obvious “green” external characteristics. Jeep has kept the appearance simple, as premium SUV buyers want. The push-open/push-close cover holding the charging port on the left front fender has a tiny blue “e” insignia, while the tailgate has a 4xe logo on the left side.

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe has only one cosmetic change from the previous generation. It has Gloss Black accents rather than Neutral Gray accents like the previous generation.

Driving Impressions

Driving status of 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is comfortable and steady.
Driving of 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

On the highway, the available active system assists drivers in staying on the right track. The Grand Cherokee may make small adjustments using radar and sensors to help keep it a precisely defined distance from the car directly ahead and in the core of its lane.

Although the Jeep Grand Cherokee shares a base with several agile Alfa Romeo models, it puts a greater focus on comfort and suspension articulation than striking driving elements. The Grand Cherokee is a heavy vehicle, and the driver is constantly aware of this fact. Even the base RWD Laredo model has a curb weight of 4,238 pounds, which significantly impairs handling. Due to its heavy weight and high center of gravity, the Grand Cherokee is not a corner-carving vehicle, and early-onset understeer is increasingly available. However, it makes up for its hazy driving variations with a comfortable ride.

Also, the Grand Cherokee’s performance isn’t exactly jaw-dropping. The V6 produces reasonable power, but its heavy construction hinders its performance. Take-offs, merging, and overtaking at high speeds are all handled smoothly but uninspiringly.

Fuel Economy

The Jeep Grand Cherokee, when equipped with the V6, achieves segment-average fuel economy of 22 mpg combined, in 19 cities, and 26 highways. Predictably, the V8 performs worse, achieving only 17 mpg combined, 14 in the city and 22 on the interstate.

The plug-in electric 4xe, which can go up to 25 miles on purely electric power and returns a combined 56 MPGe if maintained charged, is the Grand Cherokee’s secret weapon for saving gasoline. Even in gas-only mode, its combined efficiency of 23 mpg makes it more efficient than the calibration V6. Though its economy matches that of the Lincoln Aviator PHEV (also 56 MPGe, 23 mpg on gas), it lags behind more affordable options like the Kia Sorento PHEV (76 MPGe, 34 on gas). Compared to the Toyota Highlander hybrid, its gas-only performance is inferior (up to 36 mpg combined).

What About Servicing And Warranty?

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee comes with a five-year, 100,000-kilometer warranty. The two-row Grand Cherokee’s service pricing has yet to be disclosed, but the three-row L’s first five services are capped at $399. The frequency of service is every 12 months or 12,000 kilometers, whichever comes first.

How Much Does the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Cost?

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe starts at $60,360 and goes up to around $77,570. All grades are subject to a $1,795 destination fee.

The Laredo, the base model of the Grand Cherokee, is priced at $45,045 and comes with the option to purchase the Altitude package, which adds items like gloss black trim, a remote starter, heated front seats, and the steering wheel, rain-sensing wipers, and a wireless charger. The Limited costs $50,045, the Overland $53,945 and the Summit $60,545. The Summit Reserve package, which is available as an additional option for that top specification, includes items like premium leather, open-pore wood trim, massaging seats, a premium 19-speaker McIntosh audio system, and 21-inch wheels.

Grand Cherokee 4xe, which costs $53,859, is the starting point for the PHEV model. It costs $57,301 to purchase a Trailhawk 4xe, which only now has a plug-in powertrain. The Summit 4xe, priced at $64,707, and the Overland 4xe, priced at $60,592 each, are additional trims that can also be ordered with the Summit Reserve package.

Final Verdict 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Have a look at the pros and cons of Jeep Grand Cherokee 2023.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 2023

The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee is a redesigned all-new model for 2022, with only minimal alterations for this model year. The Trailhawk trim, which was previously offered in the normal Grand Cherokee lineup, is currently only available as the 4xe plug-in hybrid (PHEV). On Limited and Overland versions, a Uconnect 5 infotainment system with navigation and a 10.1-inch digital touchscreen is now standard. A nine-speaker Alpine audio system on the Limited and a 19-speaker McIntosh system on the Overland and Summit trims are new standalone options.

If the proper options are chosen, the Grand Cherokee offers real off-road capability. The outward design is quite fantastic, with a good-looking interior that provides a genuine luxury feel in high-trim variants. Plus, the ride quality is quite nice.

There are many conventional and readily available driver assistance systems. The V6 engine provides sufficient but not exceptional performance. Moreover, AWD is a costly option. The cabin isn’t as large as its size would suggest. When the options are included, the Grand Cherokee Jeep rapidly becomes extremely pricey.
